Bird's Nest Fern is grown in many public parks and gardens because they are hardy and easy to grow and if they are arranged esthetically, they can enhance the beauty of a green patch, especially with rocks.

The term "Bird's Nest Ferns" is actually a collective one that refers to several species of plants that grow in a tight, nest-like clump and with the fern leaves forming a ring like a rosette. The species include bird's nest fern, crow's nest fern and wild bird's nest fern. Their physical differences lie mainly in the shapes of their leaves.

These plants are also "parasitic", growing on trees, though most descriptions of them would use the term "epiphytic", indicating that they live on the surface of trees rather than depending on the trees for their nutrients.
