Sunflowers are one of the brightest flowers to look at when they bloom. The American Indians grow them for beauty and for harvesting their seeds. Nowadays the Japanese in Hokkaido grow them in their commercial flower farms that attract thousands of visitors each day.

Most sunflowers are remarkably tough and easy to grow as long as the soil is not waterlogged. Most are heat- and drought-tolerant. They make excellent cut flowers and many are attractive to bees and birds.

Looking at sunflowers each morning certainly puts a positive start to the day.

All photos here taken in my garden.
