Little Pied Flycatcher @ Fraser's Hill

Little Pied Flycatcher @ Fraser's Hill

This is a female Little Pied Flycatcher. Pied Flycatchers are not as common in Nepal and Bangladesh but are found in greater numbers in India and Bhutan. They are also common in Thailand and in Peninsular Malaysia.

They establish their nests mostly in tree holes. The nest can be quite high above the ground. Up to eight pale greeny-blue eggs are laid and both sexes take turns to incubate the eggs. The eggs hatch after 13 days and the chicks are fed by the parent birds for another two weeks, before the young leave the nest.

In Europe the birds to warmer regions during winter.
