There are many yellow butterflies and they probably all look the same to the ordinary eye. The Three-Spot Grass Yellow can be distinguished from the other yellow butterflies by the 3 cell spots on the undersides of the forewings. 

It is usually sighted alone feeding on flowers or "puddling" on some sandbar. The Three Spot Grass Yellow is the rarest of all the grass yellow butterflies.
