Potter Wasp

Potter Wasp

It's rare that we see a colourful Potter Wasp, and one that's so colourful often tells us to be careful as its sting may be poisonous. But Potter Wasps are rarely aggressive and seldom sting. They are solitary insects that are more predators to caterpillars and spiders.

Potter Wasps get their name from the way they build their nests, which look like the product of a potter. A Potter Wasp is a solitary insect in its behavior. It lays a single egg in its completed nest and then proceeds to hunt for caterpillars, spiders and other prey and puts these into the nest. When the egg hatches, the baby wasp feeds on the food left behind until it's ready to move on.
